Program: A 7,500-square-foot residence situated on one acre of desert land.

Design concept and solution: Two one-story volumes define the entry courtyard of this white cast in place concrete residence, and provide a base for the white plaster level above. The second story houses the main living, dining, and kitchen spaces; the bedrooms are on the ground level. This reversal of the typical living plan provides for optimal views from the living area, while connecting the bedrooms with the desert surroundings via sliding glass doors that lead to an outdoor terrace. The partially sunken lower level keeps the bedrooms cool and shaded.
