Completed in 2011, this 2,500-square-foot house is located in Catemito, 12 miles south of Santiago in Chile’s central valley at the foot of Chena Hill. Because of site restrictions (the house is located on an agricultural plot), a one-story volume was mandated. To add height, the architects placed protruding skylights at key points. The skylights designate terraces, entries,and a service garage, and provide cross-ventilation, keeping temperatures pleasant during the summer months.
The stuccoed masonry is painted gray, contrasting with skylights and windows framed in white aluminum and a white interior. The plan aims to create maximum flexibility: when the sliding door that separates the kitchen from the dining room is open, these public spaces combine with an outdoor terrace to create a pavilion.
