Located off a main highway in Kuwait, these six houses, which total 36,758 square feet, are differentiated from their surroundings by a stark facade design that serves to give the buildings visual prominence and helps to achieve unity among all residences.
Design concept and solution:
Two contrasting materials create the defining black and white motif—white stucco as a base for all the houses and dark gray stone bands that turn corners, go indoors, and flow throughout the project. The six houses are contained on three adjacent plots, with each divided up to accommodate two houses. The front villas are introverted courtyard houses that face an inner neighborhood street, while the back villas face the highway, with gardens buffering the houses from the busy road. Each house has large windows overlooking courtyards and gardens, and smaller strip windows looking out to the streets. Various outdoor terraces and pool areas are located at different levels to bring ample light into the interiors, while creating a seamless indoor/outdoor experience. Outdoor living spaces, light wells, and the variety of levels separate the houses from each other and create a sense of privacy and independence.
