Sagaponac House 24 is a structure that
both blends and separates open and closed areas, interior
and exterior spaces, the amorphous and the angular in its
design. For example, the open, column-free volume that contains
the living sections of the house is clearly separated from
the closed-off and private bedrooms sheathed in plated, angular
metal panels. The living area that is also positioned over
the service area and open to the outdoors through a continuous
glass wall, allows for a more free-form utilization of space.
The focus of the interior living space
is the kitchen. Adjoining the main room are smaller spaces
in which to read, nap, or sit by a fire. Enclosed by a free-form
truss roof that allows for clerestory windows around the perimeter,
this amorphous part of the house is grounded to the site by
stairs and terraces. To complete the house, an elevated screen
porch serves as a place to socialize and enjoy the pool and
tennis court from within. The porch is protected by an angular
roof similar to the forms at the opposite end of the house.
