Sagaponac House 1

Sagaponac House 1 was conceived as a light and informal weekend house, open to and integrated with the landscape. The architect designed a house with a simple and compact footprint, and an outdoor courtyard. The angular roofline and wood cladding recall local vernacular traditions, while the open floor plan and interlocking of solid and void spaces acknowledge contemporary lifestyles. A patchwork site plan creates a series of spaces for outdoor living interspersed throughout. Outdoor courts and gardens are integrated into the living spaces, merging the site with the house. Generous glass walls open to the deck, which connects directly to the pool. Filtered, ambient light changes with the seasons and the time of day, filling the house with light from the roof lights and from louvers, screens, and battens located at the house's perimeter.
