The Achilles Project
Retail, restaurant, bar, and even art gallery come together in this adaptable project.
The Achilles Project is a chic fusion of fashion, art, food, and music. Set in a former warehouse in Boston’s Fort Point Channel District, the project is an mélange of urban creativity and an extension of the edgy concrete and steel industrial shell. The narrow but deep 8,900-square-foot space is cleverly utilized to include space for fashion retail, a bar and lounge area, a 65-seater dining room, a kitchen, restrooms, offices, and a stock room.

Men and women’s designer clothing are displayed in 28 glass and steel merchandise cases that suspend from an overhead system of steel rails mounted into the ceiling. The clothing cases slide along the rails into clustered vaults by night, transforming the space into an extension of the bar and lounge area.
The chef requested that the rear dining area have the flexibility to seat both small and large parties. The uneven flooring of the warehouse would cause mismatched and wobbly tables, so the architects worked around the obstacle by designing a rail system upon which tables are mounted. The solid walnut-top tables can slide along the rail system to separate for intimate dining, or can be joined together for a feast.
The exposed brick walls that encompass the multi-purpose space serve as a gallery, featuring the work of local artists each month.
