TNT, standing for 'The New Trend' is
a trio of stores located in the dated interior of Hazelton
Lanes, an upscale urban mall in Toronto's Yorkville district.
The three interconnected spaces, each with a separate entrance
into the mall, are designed with variations on the same white
box theme. TNT Woman was designed as a space of calm repose,
a gallery like setting for the display of woman's clothing--the
two other stores feature men's clothing and intimates. While
the store has the feel of an uninterrupted flow of bright
space, at the same time it is defined by boutiques-within-boutiques;
three interlinking spaces that are further subdivided into
alcove-like discrete areas enclosed by walls of frosted glass,
creating intimate areas for shopping and trying on clothing.
This boutique concept creates opportunities
to feature selected designers, and its scale allows for personalized
attention to the customers.
Each of these areas features an integral
mechanistic element, a mirror/table that appears to float
unattached to any perceivable structure. This folding table/display
shelf can pivot to an upright position and function as a full-length
mirror or remain as a table. The custom-designed, multi-use
fixtures were created by the designers in response to tight
spatial constraints.
