Supperclub is the brainchild of a group of artists and libertines, who in the early nineties moved to Amsterdam. Since then it has evolved into one of the hot spots in this city and has become internationally known. The idea of camaraderie with other patrons, whether they are acquaintances or strangers, partly explains its success. Seating is open and communal—there are only a few distinct eating tables on the central ground floor of the restaurant, which is often cleared for shows. Perimeter seating on both the ground floor and upper tier of the restaurant is casual—diners remove their shoes and lay back on pillows. Circular ottoman seating is available in the basement lounge.

No corridor leads from the kitchen to the dining space and no staircase leads to the upper tiers of the restaurant. The waiters stand by the bar where food is passed to them, then they pass food onto waiters on the tiers who then tranfer it to the tables. This unusual serving style becomes part of the show and Supperclub experience. Lounge seating consists of mattresses covered with white sheets. The tables are custom-made and look like elephant drums. The idea is that after a good meal and an enjoyable evening with friends (or strangers as the case may be), one might be compelled to get up and dance on the table.

There is a very cozy red bar called "le bar rouge," with a D.J. and dancing. Lighting throughout the restaurant is spectacular and includes a white room that changes colors. Due to the enormous success of Supperclub Amsterdam, the owner decided to expand internationally. Having found the right venue, partners, staff, and performers, a similar establishment has opened in the ancient city of Rome.
