Program: The Grove is a 17,180 square foot fine dining restaurant set in the 12-acre Discovery Green Park in downtown Houston. The two-story restaurant seats over 500 guests for both indoor and outdoor dining.

Design concept and solution: The restaurant design imitates the elongated promenades of oak trees —in which it is situated—with three rectangular volumes. Each volume sectionalizes the space by function. The front steel-framed volume features a glazed facade that opens the dining space to the surrounding park. The second brick volume houses two grand exterior stairs, restrooms, an elevator, and interior circulation. The third volume contains the kitchen and is made of sustainable ipe wood.

Gross square footage: 17,180 sq.ft.

Total construction cost: The costs of the individual buildings were never separated from the total cost of the park.
