Program: Border Grill is a 3,600-square-foot Mexican restaurant renovation project located in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, a 39-story resort with over 3,000 rooms.
Design concept and solution: The architects sought to create a restaurant interior that connects with the exterior surrounding desert environment and the Mexican culture. Rammed earth veneer panels define the exterior facade, and blackened steel panel walls enclose the interior. Handicrafts from Mexico were incorporated in the interior design. Wood panel faces were folded into the ceiling.
