This nonprofit organization that raises
funds for cancer research wished to convey an image befitting
such an philanthropic organization while providing a "classic
modern" environment. The organization particularly wanted
maximum daylight and views for all its employees.
The plan consists of private offices
broken down into three standard sizes in addition to administrative
areas, a state-of-the-art multi-conferencing room, a teleconferencing
room, large file room, dining, and reception area.
The entire facility comprises 40,000
square feet of area and has been designed with an intentional
rhythm created from encaustic, anigre and glass. Glass is
used throughout to allow as much light to filter through the
space as possible. All office fronts are a combination of
clear and frosted glass to provide ample privacy as well as
daylight while blond sycamore wood was used to reinforce the
light, airy quality of the space. Wood pilasters appear in
the interior corridors as a visual punctuation that recalls
the structure of the exterior wall. Completed in two phases,
the construction costs were approximately $7.4 million.
