Program: A 27,189-square-foot brewery.
Design concept and solution: To accommodate the estimated 20,000 visitors to Duvel Brewery each year—and to meet the requirements of new hygienic regulations—the architects designed a plan that would enable visitors to view the brewery at a germ-free distance; guests walk along a ramp made of copper and wood that wraps the perimeter of the brewery. The building’s skin is composed of translucent polycarbonate panels and clear glazing, allowing the building to be illuminated primarily by daylight. The roof is covered by a photovoltaic membrane.
