Completion Date: September 2009

Owner: Zenden

Program: A 9,365-square-foot hotel converted from three separate town houses near the river Maas. The hotel includes nine rooms, a pool, a lounge, and a patio.

Design concept and solution:The project transforms a once-disparate assortment of guest rooms and athletic spaces—formerly known as the Hotel and Sport School Zenden—into one cohesive hotel. Wiel Arets knocked out the walls separating the houses and opened up the maze of corridors and rooms to make the ground floor feel like one continuous space. A sleek white palette, including white polyurethane floors, and minimalist, box-like rooms blend the three houses together. The team kept the rooms upstairs in their original configuration but maximized living space by condensing toilets, cupboards, and sinks into neat blocks.
