Though they’re joined at the hip, in a manner of speaking, the hotels Fiesta Inn and Fiesta Americana present two very different architectural approaches. The Americana, the more playful of the two, caters to tourists, while the more conservative Inn serves business travelers. Both hotels occupy a 1.5-acre site in Santa Fe, Mexico City’s financial and commercial neighborhood, a block from the city’s Bancomer convention center.

In designing the rounded, aerodynamic volume of the Americana hotel, Mexico City-based Picciotto Arquitectos were inspired by the prevailing winds that sweep through the valley. They believe its fluid shape “expresses an atmosphere that yearns to live.” The rectilinear form of the Inn, meanwhile, resembles a corporate office tower—in keeping with its business-focused clientele.

Despite their different shapes, both volumes are clad in a steel and glass curtainwall system that gives them a shimmering, crystalline effect. A three-story base connects the hotels and contains shared facilities including restaurants, a fitness center, retail shops, and meeting rooms.
