Winner of the 2003 European Hotel Design
Award for "best interiors," this stylistically eclectic
project offers a provocative interpretation of "heaven
and hell," depicted in three distinct layers of public
space. The Aleph has revolutionized the Italian hotel experience.
Two full-scale Samurai figures, representing
the eternal dichotomy of good versus evil, stand guard at
the hotels front entrance and set the whimsical tone.
The "Heaven" space incorporates a pristine, state-of-the-art
Aleph Spa with a lap pool inspired by Roman baths. The dramatic,
all red "hell" is conveyed by an intimate wine bar,
a clubby library with holographic "books," and the
sophisticated, contemporary Sin restaurant. An exotic, open-air
Moroccan-inspired Terrazza Bar/Lounge finds expression in
luxurious earth tones.
The 93 guest rooms, inspired by Italian
designs of the 1930s and 1940s, combine contemporary and period
furnishingsa nod to living in modern Rome. Each room
features a significant black and white "day in the life
of Rome" photomural by Bram Tihany that infuses energy
and a sense of place. The VIP Suite, finished in exotic zebra
wood, features an over 800-square foot private terrace and
an enclosed Jacuzzi.
