Located in the heart of Stockholm, the
Hotel Birger Jarl has gone through an extensive renovation
in the last few years, transformed from a vintage 1970s hotel
into one of the most modern in Stockholm. Inspired by Swedens
tall, slender birch trees and the traditional copper-red paint
of the wooden houses, the hotel is a place where indigeneous
colors, form, and design are exhibited in the furniture, textiles,
floors, and walls of the interior spaces. The renovation included
240 hotel rooms, twelve of which are signature rooms and suites
located mostly on the 7th floor at the top of the building.
In every corner of the hotel, Swedish designers have communicated
their unique interpretation of aesthetic "temperature"hot
and cold, summer and winter. This can take the form of ice
crystal forms in a woollen rug or the warm curve of a cool
glass.
The first thing encountered as one enters
is the refreshing fragrance of new wood in the lobby. The
reception area glows in classic Swedish red, with an accent
wall in pale birch. It is a forum for a changing exhibition
of local art, which is showcased on the walls. Clean lines
and natural colors are extended into the dining areas, adjacent
to the lobby on the ground floor, which include a private
banquet hall for large parties. There is a new gym on the
rooftop with fabulous views of Stockholm.
