60 Thompson is Sohos latest contribution
to the increasingly popular luxury boutique hotel genre in
New York. This 100-room new hotel was built on a site that
formerly hosted an ornamental metal shop in a quiet street
in Soho. It offers its guests a retreat from city life, standing
discreetly behind and protected by a courtyard of birch trees.
Guests are able to enjoy privacy and luxury without sacrificing
location or style. Filled with sumptuous design details and
amenities, its located close to art, food, and fashion,
while Manhattans mid-town business center is not far
off.
Stephen B. Jacobs Group, P.C., known
for preservation and a pioneer of loft and industrial building
conversions, designed the building. Aero Studios, who does
work for Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani, designed the warm
and handsome interiors. The hotel reflects the rhythms of
metropolitan New York, translating them into an intimate scale
of grand yet understated elegance. The restaurant, Thom, by
the well-known proprietors of Indochine and Bond St. is located
in the 2nd floor lounge and bar and a street side cafe will
open later this year. Abstract photographs adorn the walls
of the hotel, and a duplex penthouse loft with private garden
deck sits atop the twelve-story building.
