Program: An 18,000-square-foot discovery center set on 70 acres
Design concept and solution: The design of the James Clarkson Environmental Discovery Center was the result of collaboration with landscape architects, scientists, engineers, educators, and architects. Set upon a 70-acre site, visitors can explore rehabilitated wetlands, prairies, and forest ecosystems. The copper-roofed visitors center appears to be an extension of the landscape. The glass facade rear of the building offers views of the lake, restored prairies, and meadows beyond.
