Design concept and solution: The russet-colored sandstone courthouse in Alpine, Texas, is designed in the Trans-Pecos tradition and appears to rise from the surrounding plains. The local dry-stacked sandstone creates harmony with the topography, while a double-height rotunda establishes a distinguished presence. Ramadas, traditional sun shelters, shade windows along the east, south, and west of the structure. The courthouse functions are contained on the second floor.
