Program: An 11,416-square-foot for an oil and gas company headquarters that includes offices, a conference room, an employee lounge, a courtyard, and a roof terrace.

Design concept and solution: To create a sophisticated, light-filled new home for an established local business while preserving the industrial feel of an underused downtown building, a machine shop from the early 1900s.

Lake|Flato removed the center section of the original roof to create an interior courtyard that supplies natural light and ventilation to the surrounding rooms. They left the rest of the building intact, allowing structural steel columns and exposed wood roof beams to serve as an organizing framework for the office spaces within. Semitranslucent dividers separate individual offices and workrooms, providing some privacy while maximizing natural light.

Gross square footage:
11,416 sq. Ft.
