Program: A 1,800-square-foot Nike retail store.
Design concept and solution: Chang Bene Design tried to capture the excitement of athletic competition in this flagship store for Nike sportswear by evoking the sequence of spaces an Olympic marathon runner moves through on entering a sports stadium. So store visitors walk up a slightly inclined ramp in a compressed tunnel-like space and enter the illuminated retail space as if it were a light-filled stadium. Maple shelves, white-laminate cabinets, exposed industrial light tubes, vertical spotlights on tracks with exposed wiring, and custom polished stainless steel hardware help create the feeling of a sports stadium.
Gross square footage: 1,800 sq.ft.
