Program: A 33,500-square-foot social science academic building.
Design concept and solution: This renovation and addition to Dalton Hall embodies the Gothic architecture of the Bryn Mawr College campus. The original timber framing and load-bearing brick-wall construction of the hall could not meet code requirements, so the architects inserted a new steel frame but retained the traditional schist and brick exterior shell to preserve the character of the building. A new octagonal glass tower pays homage to the stone towers on campus and hosts the main stair.
Gross square footage: 33,500 sq.ft.
Total construction cost: $15,000,000
