Program: A 4, 680-square-foot lighthouse museum with a café, exhibition spaces, and offices.
Design concept and solution: Located on the site of a 17th-century fortress, the Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum preserves the historic lighthouse, while bringing a cohesion to the site and creating exhibition spaces to present its history. The architects introduced as few alterations as possible to the lighthouse and four one-story buildings. The firm restored the roofs, walls, and windows, but gave the four volumes a new light tile façade. Each volume serves as a gallery space. The outdoor site is divided into two main areas connected by a narrow path: an upper square, which offers ocean views, and a lower square, surrounded by the rock formations of the shore.
