Metro Hollywood is a mixed-use development that integrates 60 units of affordable housing, a child care facility and retail space above an existing mass transit station. The building’s strong urban presence is achieved at a low cost per square foot by combining color and stock windows to create a sense of variety and playfulness.
The building’s location, above a subway station, encourages both residents and retail patrons to use environmentally-sensitive mass transit. But it turns out that the subway station’s boldly colored tiles also inspired the brilliant color palette for the development above it.
Since families are the targeted tenants, most of the apartment units contain two and three bedrooms. The units are arranged in a U-shaped plan, creating a large courtyard that is flooded with daylight.
