Niagara Falls High School, the first
privately financed and privately managed school construction
project in New York State, is a example of a true architecture,
business, technology, and community partnership developed
as a result of needing to replace two aging high school facilities.
The complex consists of four, four-story, theme-based academic
houses. Each of these "schools-within-a-school"
will serve 600 students from all four grades, providing small
social groups concentrating on the basic academics of math,
science, social studies, English, foreign languages, and guidance.
At the center of the complex is a completely
up-to-date, flexible technology core around which everything
is organized. Four support cores surround this area, designed
by theme: performance, physical education, art and dining.
The technology center provides both Lan and WAN networks,
as well as power and data for every instructional space. In
addition to the cutting-edge design of the school, each student
has been given his own laptop computer, allowing ongoing Internet
access both at home and at school.
