A remodel for an innovative graphic design
firm combines old and new as the clients collection
of antique objects are seamlessly intermixed with modern elements.
In the conference space, a set of old hardware store shelves
are suspended within a new steel framework and backlit to
"float" against the existing rough concrete wall.
Privacy and flexibility are provided through the use of movable
translucent fabric panels on custom stainless steel tracks,
screening a steel shelving system.
Fully adjustable workstations were created
to be light and airy yet solid and permanent through the use
of classical materials such as maple wood, polished stainless,
blackened steel, and etched glass. The existing industrial
space was sandblasted, original steel sash windows were refinished,
and concrete floors were refinished with epoxy. The space
has been broken up with new minimal partition walls and fabricated
custom furniture and fixtures that used translucent materials
throughout to maintain the feel of the open industrial plan.
