While maintaining the connection to its main Midtown office through graphics and a neutral color palette, Gensler’s Wall Street office establishes a unique environment with a feel of a small "downtown" firm. The new design incorporates many of the workplace strategies that proved successful uptown. This includes providing a studio atmosphere with pin-up and gallery spaces, places for designers to review drawings and meet with team members and consultants, and a modern, contemporary appearance.

Gensler partnered with manufacturers to introduce a new workstation reminiscent of a trading desk. Flat screen monitors on swing arms maximize space for large drawings on the main work surface. Overhead storage for reference material and separate rolling task tables complete each station. Each workplace cluster is centered on the structural bays and includes large reference counters with file storage for documents and drawings and a workspace/drawing area. Circulation corridors accommodate informal meeting areas with pin-up walls and blackboards that can be used for gallery exhibition. Private offices are located on the interior with glass fronts and access to "borrowed" natural light.

An exposed ceiling maximizes height and 12-by-12-foot floating planes of acoustic ceiling tiles define areas as well as reduce noise. The result is a feeling of increased natural light and openness. Exposed brick along the exterior wall adds to a loft-like feel. With a simple color palette as a foundation, bolder color is introduced into selected areas and throughout the space with changing graphic art displays. The pantry is centrally located, doubling as a lunchroom and break-out area. A bright lime wall borders one side with a mesh curtain informally demarcating another, adding to the air of a relaxed creative environment. The result is a space that inspires creative thinking; a place where the design process happens in the hallway as easily as at a desk or in a conference room.
