Program: A 375,000-square-foot arts campus with classrooms, studios, offices, an art shop, exhibition space, student center, faculty lounge, library, and study pods.
Design concept and solution: The project was designed to accommodate various arts disciplines and to connect the school to its urban context. The complex occupies a full block in the heart of Singapore; six entrances from four different streets make the building accessible to both students and the public. The exterior walls, made of aluminum and black stone, enclose a canyon-like interior surrounded by glass and steel volumes. Bridges link the volumes and serve as performance platforms. A Teflon membrane roof arches across the interior ravine and shelters the court below.
