The building-wide renovation of Thebaud
Hall arose from the University's need to re-engineer the delivery
of administrative services to students by centralizing enrollment
offices in one location. Formerly the School of Pharmacy,
Thebaud Hall now houses the enrollment group, which is composed
of admissions, registrar, bursar, and financial aid.
To accommodate this change of use, the
architect designed a welcoming reception area, flanked by
a waiting area for candidates and parents on one side and
a student account area on the other. This combination of functions
ensures a level of activity that supports the admissions effort
and simplifies administrative procedures for students and
staff. Private and open offices, flexible workspace for processing
applications, and institutional mailings and dedicated filing
areas were created on all three floors. As part of the renovation,
state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and telecommunications
systems were installed.
In designing the interiors, the architect
focused particular attention on developing a palette of materials
that would be appropriate for public spaces and could be easily
and economically adapted for back-office functions. The oak
featured in the paneling in the reception area is carried
through the rest of the building in door surrounds, windowsills,
and other elements. Throughout the building the use of natural
wood and a palette of blues and grays creates a gently modulated
modern collegiate image.
