Editor's Bookmarks - January 2011

Each month RECORD reviews building product related web sites and blogs that might be of interest to our readership. We visit each site, kick the tires a bit, and share what it is about and how it functions. Please let us know if there is a site you've found particularly useful, well-designed, or easy to navigate. — Rita Catinella Orrell

Lampsplus.com/design-it
Visitors can design their own custom lampshades and wall art at this easy to use site offering affordable solutions for creating an affordable custom look for residential, hospitality, retail, health care, or corporate settings. Using the “Design Your Own” online tool specifiers can select a product type —including ceiling lights, pendant chandeliers, and table, floor, and wall lamps — and customize the shade, working from hundreds of pattern options from contemporary to traditional. The  program gives designers complete control, with a color palette that can match color trends or specify PMS colors, RGB values, hues, saturation, and more. Each order is custom-printed using archival-quality inks and canvas, then hand assembled by a team of artisans in Los Angeles. Each lamp is affordably priced and shipped for free in a short lead-time (Architectural Record’s test run turned the lamp shade around in 48 hours). The wall art program features dozens of customizable images, from people and places to abstracts and scenes from nature. The custom designs are produced with a state-of-the-art giclée print technique on either stretched canvas or photographic-quality poster paper using archive quality inks.
