On April 24, New York Governor George Pataki presented a
timetable for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center
site. In an address to the Association for a Better New York,
the governor called for the completion of the permanent PATH
station as well as Daniel Libeskind's 1,776-foot tower by
the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in 2006. Pataki's
term ends in December 2006. In addition, Pataki said that
the site's transportation hub will be open by late 2006 and
fully operational in 2007, and that the substructure of the
memorial to the victims of the terrorist attacks will be finished.
Pataki also said that the New York City office of the governor
will be the first tenant in the Libeskind-designed tower.
He also unveiled several short-term capital projects in his
speech, including the construction of a new pedestrian bridge
across West Street toward the north side of the site.
