An exhibition called World
Trade Center: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow will comprise
the United States entry in the 2002 Biennale di Venezia, the
international art and architecture exhibition that will be
held September 8 to November 24, in Venice. The theme for
this years architecture section is Next.
ARCHITECTURAL RECORD editor in chief Robert Ivy, FAIA, serves
as commissioner for the American Pavilion, the first U.S.
exhibition at the Biennale to receive funding from the U.S.
State Department.
Half of the architecture exhibition will feature the photography
of Joel Meyerowitz, who, with a large-format camera, produced
more than 7,000 images of Ground Zero over the course of seven
months. The Meyerowitz photography show is entitled The Aftermath
and Before. The second installation on display in the U.S.
Pavilion will be A
New World Trade Center: Design Proposals. The Max Protetch
Gallery in New York City organized this exhibition of more
than 60 design ideas for the World Trade Center site [RECORD,
March 2002, page 59] submitted by an international roster
of architects including Steven Holl, Daniel Libeskind, and
the late Samuel Mockbee.
