Edward Larrabee Barnes Named 2007 AIA Gold Medal Winner
December 7, 2006
Today the American Institute of Architects announced that Edward Larrabee Barnes is the recipient of the 2007 AIA Gold Medal. The posthumous designation acknowledges Barnes's understated combinations of Modernist and vernacular American lexicons; his oeuvre includes works such as the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, in Deer Isle, Maine, and New York's IBM Building, now 590 Madison Avenue. This is the sixty-third time the Gold Medal, which is considered to be the profession's highest honor, has been awarded, and the third time it has been awarded posthumously.
