Following the success of its 2004 Global Construction Summit, Architectural Record's parent, McGraw-Hill Construction, just completed its
2006 Global Construction Summit, co-hosted by the China International Contractors Association.
The event, which took place on April 26 and 27 in Beijing, drew real estate developers, contractors, design firms, financiers, and government agencies from around the world. Participants shared practice ideas and discussed opportunities and problems related to China¹s $4.2 trillion construction market, which is the third largest in the world.
Speakers and panelists included Thomas J. O'Neil, chairman and CEO of Parsons Brinckerhoff; Yung Ho Chang, principal at Chinese firm Atelier FCJZ and head of MIT¹s Architecture Department; Gregory Hodkinson, a chairman at ARUP; Sun Hong, one of the directors of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; and Ole Scheeren, a partner at Rem Koolhaas¹s Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).
