Four Architects Leave Chong Partners to Start Firm

There is a big shake-up in “Quake City”. Four of the five most senior partners of one of the San Francisco region’s largest architectural firms, Chong Partners Architecture, are leaving to form their own practice.

Former partners Jeff Warner, John Ruffo, Sam Nunes and Bryan Shiles, citing disagreements over direction of the firm and ownership stakes as reasons for their departure, launched their new practice, WRNS Studio, in early May.

Chong Partners has a significant reputation for its work in healthcare and is the associate architect with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop on the Academy of Sciences building in Golden Gate Park. Gordon H. Chong, who founded the firm in 1978, continues with 190 employees, 50 of them architects, and additional offices in San Diego, Sacramento and London.
