Cedric Price, Innovative Architectural Thinker, Dies

Cedric Price, a visionary architect and well-known breaker of rules, died last Sunday, August 10. He was 68. Price was best known for his theoretical projects, which challenged the limits of architectural thinking and space.

Most of his well-known works were from the 1960s and were never built. Designs such as Joan Littlewood's Fun Palace, the Potteries Thinkbelt and Nonplan were examples of Price’s explorations of architecture's potential for change, which he also explored with copious critical observations. The one building he did complete was the aviary at the London Zoo, an aluminum “net” structure completed in 1964.
