The Beijing Urban Planning Commission
announced that three designs had been named as finalists in
a competition to design the main stadium for the 2008 Olympics.
The finalist teams are: Herzog & DeMeuron with China Architecture
Design Institute; Beijing Architecture Design Institute; and
Japanese AXS Company with Tsinghua University Architecture
Design Institute.
The designs were selected by an international
panel of judges from a group of 44 shortlisted designs. One
winner will be announced in time for construction of the 80,000-seat
stadium to begin by the end of 2003.
