Scheduled to open in 2005, this satellite operations facility will provide global environmental data for weather predictions and distress signals. In light of the clients’ environmental stewardship, the plan emphasizes open space, minimizing the presence of the building by concealing it within the natural contours of the site. The entire support program is submerged into the landscape, reducing the building’s mass by two thirds. Collaboration among the design team, client, and tenant allowed for this sustainable
project to both meet the complicated technical needs of the facility and its antennas, and respond to the environmental needs of its users.
