BusinessWeek/Architectural Record Awards
Due to a high number of queries, the deadline has been extended to May 15, 2009.
We announce the 12th annual BusinessWeek/Architectural Record awards program. Recipients will be considered for publication in Architectural Record and BusinessWeek, along with our new magazine, HQ: Good Design is Good Business. These titles are read by millions of business and design professionals around the globe.
Design has become increasingly important to corporate executives, facility managers, and the general public. Organizations use architecture and design to boost productivity, raise service levels, market products and services, illustrate a commitment to sustainability, and attract qualified personnel.
Good design can help a company do its job better and can help it redefine itself. The Architectural Record and BusinessWeek awards program honors the architects and clients who best utilize design to achieve such strategic objectives. Click here to view past winners.
While the focus of our program is on projects within the business community, we will consider projects for institutions and nonprofit organizations. Either a client or an architect can submit a project for consideration. A jury composed of editors will review the entries.
Projects need to be completed within the last four years. The program is open to any architect registered in the U.S. or abroad. Projects previously published in the international architectural press will be evaluated at the discretion of the jury.
Submissions must be firmly bound in an 8.5-by-11-inch folder, postmarked no later than May 15, 2009. Please include the name of the firm and the client in your material. Submissions must include:
-
A completed submission form.

- A project description of no more than 500 words. Please be sure to include the basics: who, what, when, where, and why.
- A business case description of no more than 500 words. Projects that do not include a business case will be disqualified. The jury will look closely at metrics; the more detail, the better. Architects may need to contact their clients to procure this information. Key measurable benefits include: increased revenue; a reduction in water and energy use; employee recruitment and retention; and a decrease in use of employee sick days. Other factors that might be included in the business case: increased productivity; creation of a new corporate or institutional image; change in culture; development of new work tools; and space for amenities like daycare and exercise facilities.
- Photographs and plans. These can be prints or high-quality color copies. Please also include a CD with the photographs and plans in high resolution (300 dpi, 4-by-5 inches minimum). Ensure that you provide enough photographs to give the jurors a good sense of the project, both inside and out; we suggest you submit at least six photographs, and no more than 20.
- Photo
