John P. Klingman holds the Richard Koch Chair in Architecture at Tulane University. For the past 15 years he has authored the annual "Best New Architecture" series for New Orleans Magazine, now being published as a book, New in New Orleans Architecture. He coordinates the thesis design studio at the Tulane School of Architecture.

“Everyone loves the French Quarter; it is tourism ground zero, and it is killing the neighborhood. Although it is wonderful, resolve to spend no more than one day/ evening there. The Vieux Carre was the first in the US to be preserved as a "tout ensemble," and the city is a larger one.”
“Ride the St Charles streetcar line, and have dinner in Carrollton. Ride the Canal St. line to City Park and have dinner in Esplanade Ridge. Walk to Frenchmen St., and explore the fabulous Marigny triangle. Walk in the Warehouse district, and see the museums and Julia St galleries. Take the streetcar to the Garden District; walk, eat and shop on Magazine St. Go uptown to the neighborhoods bordering Audubon Park and Tulane.”
“Go to Holy Cross, a historic neighborhood on the river in the Lower Ninth Ward, and eschew Make it Right. Go to Tremé; visit Charles Colbert's 1955 Wheatley School, and help us save it. Go to Lakeview, a middle class recovering flooded neighborhood, and have dinner on Harrison Avenue. And I haven't even mentioned the Irish Channel, Bywater, or Algiers Point, all of which hold great interest...”
