Other: BSAT with concentration in construction management
Innovations:
The intentions of the program for every student are summarized
as follows: to stimulate artistic sensitivity, creative power,
and personal self-confidence; to strengthen intellectual ability
as it is applied to the making of solutions to architectural
problems; to acquire the technical skills needed for the practice
of architecture and the related design fields.
Architecture
of the present operates in a fast-changing and complex milieu.
The emergence of computer technology, and the rapid-paced
evolution in building construction techniques, imposes tremendous
pressures on design philosophy as it is taught in an academic
setting. Vast changes in the makeup of contemporary human
society, such as the disintegration of social, geographic,
and communication barriers, impose additional pressures. Prescriptive
philosophies embraced by architectural schools in the last
century are being questioned for their relevance and effectiveness
in the new one. In response to this, the School of Architecture
and Design at NYIT takes the position that each student must
develop his or her own approach to design.
Notes:
Graduate program totals three terms
Applicants for B.Arch. program are internal bachelor's
degree candidates
4 visiting professors are considered full-time faculty

The School of Architecture is the largest component of a dynamic,
multi-disciplinary College of Design, which also contains
undergraduate and graduate programs in landscape architecture,
industrial design, graphic design, art, and a new Ph.D in
Design. With a permanent faculty of fifteen and a large cadre
of adjunct faculty, the School is richly endowed with teachers
and scholars dedicated to the advancement of architecture
as a discipline and to the betterment of society. By instilling
in our students experimental and ethical attitudes in their
approach to design, we seek to make architecture a supple
instrument for enhancing the physical environment.

Urban design (M)
Innovations:
To train leaders in the profession of architecture and stimulate
intellectual engagement about architecture, the program embraces
a wide range of building traditions while highlighting the
classical tradition. Architecture, tectonics, and urbanism,
the latter based on New Urbanist principles, are interwoven
throughout the program. All third-year undergraduate students
spend the whole year in Rome. All of the 16 graduate studens
in our two-year program receive full tuition and a stipend
and spend their second semester in Rome.
