Vanguard Updates

SCDA Architects

Read what Soo Chan has to say:

Since you were a part of the Design Vanguard, what has changed for your firm?
The Design Vanguard gave us exposure internationally. We are publishing our works more extensively in international journals as a result.

How have your design sensibilities changed since that time?
The underlying design sensibilities have not changed much. I am doing a wider range of building types.

What future goals/plans do you have for your firm?
I will like to build the firm to be a multi-disciplinary design firm consisting of landscape design, interior, product design, and graphic design. SCDA will continue to work on design commissions internationally and on projects of a variety of scales.

Back in 2003, when he was a part of Record’s Design Vanguard, Soo Chan, principal of Singapore–based SCDA Architects, was obviously at the start of a very fruitful career. His boldly modern, globally influenced residential designs were in demand in his native Malaysia, as well as his adopted home of Singapore. Then, Chan’s view was on a more expanded target market—a desire to bring his designs to other countries. There’s no doubt that this architect has accomplished his goal. While steadily working locally, Chan’s office now has on-the-boards projects including hotels and resorts as well as residences in China, the Maldives, Vietnam, Dubai, and India, as well as master-planning projects in Morocco and Algeria. Now, with an office that went from 25 to 39 employees since 2003, Chan is ready to expand his firm into a multi-disciplinary office that covers everything from architectural and landscape services to product and graphic design.
