| Jesse Reiser and Nanako Umemoto have practiced in New York City as Reiser + Umemoto RUR Architecture since 1986. Their projects cover a range of scales, from furniture and residences to landscape design and infrastructure. They participated in Record's Millennium issue in 1999 and recently won a competition for the design of the Alishan Tourist Infrastructure in Taiwan, to begin construction in 2005. Reiser teaches at Princeton University and Umemoto at the University of Pennsylvania. |

| This proposal redefines a generic highway interchange by engaging the
space between the road and its adjacent territories. The new interchange, which includes a bridge made of laminated-wood members, incorporates
residential development, pedestrian circulation, and landscaping, fostering
a sense of urbanism usually lacking in such infrastructure projects. |
